Norse & Heathen Calendar 2026

The Norse calendar as practiced by modern Heathens is a reconstruction based on historical sources including the Prose and Poetic Eddas, Icelandic sagas, Anglo-Saxon records, and archaeological evidence. There is no single "authentic" Norse liturgical calendar — different Heathen organizations (The Troth, Ásatrúarfélagið, ADF Norse kin) observe somewhat different dates and emphases.

The dates on this calendar represent the most commonly observed holy days across modern Heathen practice. Many are tied to astronomical events (solstices, equinoxes) which were universally significant across Germanic cultures. Others are reconstructed from literary and historical references. The cross-quarter days (roughly between solstices and equinoxes) were important in many Germanic traditions, though the specific celebrations varied by region and era.

The day names in Norse directly correspond to the same planetary system used across European traditions — Týr is the Norse Mars, Óðinn is the Norse Mercury, Þórr is the Norse Jupiter, and Freyja is the Norse Venus. This means planetary hours are directly applicable to Norse practice: a working for Týr (justice, oaths, courage) is strongest during a Mars hour on Tuesday (Týr's Day).

The rune correspondences shown here follow the Elder Futhark system of 24 runes, with planetary associations derived from comparative mythology and modern Heathen scholarship. These associations are not found in historical sources but represent a widely-used synthesis of Norse and Western esoteric systems.
