About This Calendar
Hoodoo (also called conjure or rootwork) is a traditional African American folk magic practice with roots in Central and West African spiritual traditions, blended with Native American herbalism, European folk magic, and elements of Christianity. It is a practice, not a religion — practitioners may follow any faith or none.
Hoodoo has always incorporated planetary timing. The use of planetary days (Tuesday for Mars/war work, Friday for Venus/love work) and moon phases (waxing to draw, waning to remove) is deeply embedded in traditional practice, documented in sources from the early 20th century and earlier. This is the same Chaldean planetary hour system used across Western esoteric traditions — adapted to Hoodoo's practical framework.
The saint feast days listed here are the Catholic calendar dates most commonly observed in Hoodoo practice, where Catholic saints are often worked with for spiritual petitioning. This is a reflection of historical practice, not a theological statement.
This calendar provides timing data only. It tells you when — what you do with that timing is your own practice, tradition, and knowledge. For real-time planetary hours specific to your location, use our planetary hours calculator.
