Day and night in balance, tipping toward light. Celebration of fertility, renewal, and the greening of the land. Plant seeds. Honor the returning sun. The Druid word "Eilir" means regeneration.

Calan Mai · The Bright Fire
The great fire festival. Cattle driven between twin bonfires for purification. The marriage of earth and sky, God and Goddess. The veil thins to the fairy realm. Celebrate vitality, passion, and the fullness of spring.

Summer Solstice · Light of the Shore
The longest day. The sun at its zenith. "Hefin" means summer — this is the peak of the solar year. Druids gather at stone circles and sacred groves. Herbs gathered at Midsummer are at maximum potency. Celebrate abundance, but acknowledge the turning.

About This Calendar

Modern Druidry (also called Druidism or Druidcraft) is a nature-based spiritual path drawing on Celtic and pre-Celtic traditions of the British Isles and Western Europe. The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD), the Ancient Order of Druids, and Ár nDraíocht Féin (ADF) are among the largest organizations, each with distinct approaches.

The eight-festival calendar used here follows the OBOD model, which names the four solar festivals using the Welsh term "Alban" (meaning "light" or "solstice/equinox point"). The four fire festivals use their traditional Irish/Gaelic names. This combined cycle mirrors the Wiccan Wheel of the Year but predates Wicca's formulation in the Druidic revival tradition.

The Celtic tree calendar is based on Robert Graves' reconstruction in The White Goddess (1948). While its historical accuracy is debated, it's become a widely used system in modern Druidry and Celtic-inspired practice. The Ogham letters are authentic — they're the earliest known Irish writing system, found on stone inscriptions dating to the 4th–6th centuries CE.
